New York Yankees at Milwaukee 8:10 ET

Yankees over Brewers- Having won five of seven games on the road, the Milwaukee Brewers will turn to right-hander Colin Rea in an effort to keep their surge going when they return home to open a three-game series Friday night against the New York Yankees. Rea (2-0, 2.08 ERA) will be opposed by Yankees right-hander Luis Gil (1-1, 2.75). The Brewers are 12-4 on the road this season, tying the best road start in franchise history (2014). He is 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA in two career starts against New York. Opponents are batting just .125 this season against Gil, who spent all of 2023 on the injured list after elbow surgery. Chicago Cubs at Boston 7:10 ET

Red Sox over Cubs- Boston's Kutter Crawford (1-0, 0.66 ERA) carries the top qualifying ERA in all of baseball into the weekend-opening start against Chicago rookie left-hander Shota Imanaga (3-0, 0.84). Crawford is coming off his first win and second quality start of the season on Saturday at Pittsburgh, where he worked around seven hits and three walks to allow just one run over six innings. As a result, Crawford's ERA is also now the best by a Red Sox starter since Roger Clemens had a 0.66 mark through his first five starts in 1991. He has not allowed a home run across his last 43 2/3 innings. After sweeping three games at Pittsburgh last weekend, the Red Sox dropped two of three in Cleveland and now return home where they are just 3-7 this season. The Cubs completed their second sweep of 2024 with a 3-1 win over Houston on Thursday to cap a three-game set. Chicago has won nine of its past 12 games. Imanaga is set to face the Red Sox for the first time. He produced his second quality start in four outings in the finale of a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins on Saturday, when he gave up three runs (two earned) in six innings. He struck out five and without issuing a walk. A two-time Nippon Professional Baseball All-Star in his native Japan, Imanaga pitched the first 18 1/3 innings of his U.S. career without allowing an earned run until the fourth inning of his Saturday start. St. Louis at New York Mets 7:10 ET

Mets over Cardinals- Jose Butto (0-0, 1.65 ERA) is slated to start for the Mets against fellow right-hander Miles Mikolas (1-3, 6.49 ERA). The visiting Mets avoided being swept by the San Francisco Giants, winning 8-2 in the finale of a three-game series. The host Cardinals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 in the rubber game of a three-game set. The Cardinals' streak of four straight playoff appearances was snapped when they finished last in the NL Central last season their first last-place finish since 1990, when St. Louis played in the NL East. St. Louis, the only sub-.500 team in the NL Central at 11-14, has scored three runs or fewer 16 times in 25 games. Butto didn't factor into the decision last Saturday, when he gave up two runs over 4 1/3 innings in the Mets' 6-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has never opposed the Cardinals. Mikolas took the loss last Saturday after allowing five runs over 4 2/3 innings as the Cardinals fell to the Milwaukee Brewers, 12-5. L.A. Dodgers at Toronto 8:10 ET

Blue Jays over Dodgers-The Dodgers defeated the Washington Nationals 2-1 Thursday afternoon to complete a three-game series sweep that opened a nine-game road trip. The Blue Jays are returning from a 3-4 road trip after losing 2-1 to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday afternoon in a rain-shortened game. Toronto won the opener of the four-game series before dropping the next three. The Dodgers are scheduled to start right-hander Gavin Stone (1-1, 6.00 ERA) on Friday. He has never faced Toronto. The Blue Jays are scheduled to go with right-hander Chris Bassitt (2-3, 3.90). Bassitt is 1-2 with a 4.30 ERA in four career starts against Los Angeles. The Dodgers, in their Thursday win, got six scoreless innings from right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, another big offseason signing. The key to his best start with his new team was fastball command, which had been a problem. Blue Jays take advantage. Timberwolves/Suns- UNDER- As most of you are aware I do not use and over/under or ‘Total’ releases until we reach the playoffs and they have been very successful.There is one clear cut reason I believe that this game stays UNDER the total and it has nothing to do with the players on the court. Here it is...in the past 10 meetings the lowest ‘total’ between these two has been a 212.5 and the highest was 238 with the average number at 222.5. This price (on the total) is so far away from the norm that I want to know why...I’ll wait for the final. Play UNDER!  

L.A. Clippers at Dallas 8:00 ET

Clippers (+) over Mavericks- The Mavericks got much more production from their supporting cast, especially from distance, when they evened the series 1-1 with a 96-93 road win on Tuesday. While the Mavericks improved from 30.3 percent to 42.4 percent on 3-pointers from Game 1 to Game 2, the Clippers went from 50.0 percent to 26.7 percent. From strictly a scoring standpoint, Los Angeles dominated 54-30 from the arc in its win before Dallas enjoyed a 42-24 advantage in its three-point victory. One big difference for the Clippers was the return of Kawhi Leonard, who had missed nine consecutive games including the series opener with a sore right knee. The teams split two games in Dallas in the regular season. Leonard had 30 points in the most recent Dallas meeting, a 120-111 Clippers win in December. It’s the Clips turn...take LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS!

Milwaukee at Indiana 5:30 ET

Bucks (+) over Pacers- Milwaukee's Damian Lillard will look to continue his trend of strong starts on Friday. He scored all 35 of his points in the first half in the series opener before scoring 26 of his 34 points over the first two quarters on Tuesday. Milwaukee star Giannis Antetokounmpo has missed his team's last five games dating back to the regular season due to a left calf injury. Bucks coach Doc Rivers was optimistic about how Antetokounmpo looked in practice on Thursday, but the club listed him as doubtful. Indiana (Megabucks winner) exploited the interior on Tuesday with Antetokounmpo reduced to the role of a spectator. Bucks suck it up here.
